Response2 to Meghan

(Please Note: This letter is dated 6/1/02)

Wow, Mr. Shuster.  I am so sorry you took such offense to my letter to you.  In NO way did I intend to anger you so.  In NO way did I mean to denigrate any of what you are trying to do.

I have not been with Senator Jepsen long.  Only one month, in fact.  I have had very little contact so far with his Senatorial staff and therefore would have no way of knowing what correspondence you have already had with the Senator (and with my browser, I could not read much of  the correspondence on the website).  The letter to which I referred was one you wrote to Ken Dixon.

I apologize for overstating how much of your website I had read.  What I should have said was simply that I was having trouble finding what I was looking for -- and in no way meant to imply that it wasn't there - I just was hoping for some help locating the information.  I absolutely believed it was there, I just wasn't sure under what to look.

The fact that your letter is completely irrelevant to anything that could possibly be construed as actual, honest concern, constructive, legitimate or actually pertaining to the very issues you raise validates the correctness of our decision to change focus away from legislators,

My job is to gather information to present to the Senator.  My letter to you was not meant as an official response from the Senator, only to let you know that we had decided to investigate your issue in depth.  You said you hoped that your letter would be the one "that might move (Ken) to action."  Well, you had managed to convince us to move to action... that's what was happening.  But if you don't want to help us understand the issue better, that is your prerogative.

All I can do is apologize that I am just a staffer and that my letter is completely irrelevant to you.  You must understand that depite being rather well-informed on most major Connecticut issues, I have never heard of your issue before. So while you have dedicated your life to it, I am starting at the beginning trying to learn and understand what is going on so I can get the right details to the Senator and help him understand how crucially important this is.

I must say I was incredibly offended by the tone of your letter, as apparently you were by mine, though mine was completely unintentional.  Believe me, whether or not you wished to, you were both derogatory and rude.  All I wanted was to understand better your issue because, awards or not, I was having difficulty with your website.  I use AOL and could not read half the correspondence because it was too small and too blurry.

At this time, how would you like to proceed?   Would you like me to continue to learn about this issue and present the information to the Senator?

Sincerely,
Meghan Fenn
