Re: State Senator George Jepsen’s Hypocritical Criticism of CRRA Administration and Governor John Rowland.

Dear Ken,

I’m sending you this more formal correspondence with respect to current gubernatorial candidate George Jepson’s criticism, of late, regarding the CRRA debacle as it relates to the ENRON scandal and a similar scandal involving the tobacco companies doing business in Connecticut that “The Shuster Project – Tobacco Industry Fraud & False Claims” organization had brought to his attention going back to February of the year 2000.

At that time, we made him aware of the Bill The Shuster Project had introduced, HB6942, that would give the state of CT strong powers in effecting the recovery of in excess of $200 MILLION DOLLARS in CT state sales tax revenues (on cigarettes and tobacco products!) and CT state income tax revenues defrauded the state of CT by the tobacco companies doing business here.

At that time he said he would “…certainly keep your comments in mind as legislation of this nature comes before me…”

He went on to say “…please feel free to contact me again on this and other issues.”

Well, The Shuster Project did just that, sending not only him but practically each and every other CT state rep and CT state senator further, more detailed alerts to the continuing tobacco company fraud & false claims crimes being committed in CT further defrauding CT state sales tax revenues and CT state income tax revenues to where it now exceeds well in excess of $200+ million dollars…surpassing even the purported CT state deficit.

Mr. Jepsen did absolutely nothing, as state rep’s DelGobbo and San Angelo did nothing, to address these issues when they were brought to their attention in great detail, in some instances, well over 3 years ago.

Had they acted then in the best interests of the state of Connecticut, the CT taxpayers and their constituents we could have been well on the way to recovering these enormous sums of defrauded CT state tax dollars to where that might have already been achieved but not for their avoidance and utter silence on these issues.

Go to The Shuster Project web site’s main entry page (www.rxshuster.org), then look in the pages index to the left and go down until you see our CORRESPONDENCE 2000 page

Then click on that and you will find one of the communications I sent to him directly as opposed to our collectively e-mailed “alerts” and “press releases.”

Then you might wonder, as the rest of us are, as to how and why Mr. Jepsen is seemingly so upset that the CRRA administration’s staff seemed to know more about the ENRON debacle longer ago then they are admitting and how CT stood to lose $220 million dollars.

And now, with the Governor’s recently hand-picked advisory board’s report recommending an assortment of “remedies” to reduce the proposed increases in CRRA fee’s Mr. Jepsen says in this morning’s paper (Waterbury Republican-American – 3/20/02):

“Implicit in this report is an agency rife with pervasive negligence and wrongdoing – and yet the panel does not recommend the removal of (president Robert) Wright or anyone else.”

In light of the fact that CT state senator George Jepsen knew over TWO YEARS AGO that the tobacco companies were defrauding CT of in excess of, back then, $190+ MILLION DOLLARS yet ALSO did nothing about it, thus being equally and pervasively negligent and committing egregious wrongdoing by not taking action back then to address the many issues of tobacco industry fraud & false claims being committed in CT, then by rights he should and must resign.

It is clear that by avoiding and ignoring tobacco industry fraud & false claims crimes in CT, by not prosecuting these crimes and taking the necessary steps, as The Shuster Project organization has done with legislative initiatives that Mr. Jepsen, Delgobbo, San Angelo specifically, and the rest of them refuse to do, not only has their credibility evaporated, but clearly, if they continue to refuse to act on behalf of the taxpayers of CT to recover what has already been defrauded and enact new legislation The Shuster Project can assist in creating and strengthen older CT state sales tax and CT state income tax laws to make the penalties for continued fraud & false claims by the tobacco companies become an enormous financial penalty for them, these legislators themselves should resign for they are betraying CT and they are betraying the CT taxpayers, their constituents and they are even betraying the honest

CT that aren’t defrauding our state with sales tax and income tax fraud.

If just these two categories of tobacco industry fraud & false claims crimes resulting in excess of $200+ MILLION DOLLARS in defrauded CT state tax revenues from among the dozens of tobacco industry fraud & false claims crimes still being committed but not yet brought out of the shadows by The Shuster Project, sofar, doesn’t open your eyes once and for all to get in there and fight with us and shine a very large and very bright light on these goings on with aggressive and consistent coverage of these issues, then truly journalism is a word that no longer has the meaning and importance it once did.

When my staff and I read and observe on a daily basis the dribble and absolute nonsense that gets into the news media but then these enormous issues of tobacco industry fraud & false claims are ignored completely…then there is something terribly wrong with expecting genuine, dedicated, credible and reputable journalism and that, in and of itself, is a crime.

I hope that this letter, perhaps, is the one that might move you to action.

Your Friend…

Sincerely,

RXShuster
